THIS WEEK: "ESTEEM" REDEFINED part 2 of 2
As we left the last Elevator I shared my definition for self-Esteem.
SELF-ESTEEM = SPECIALNESS DUE TO EXISTENCE.
It arrives with your 1st breath intack & complete.
It is present at a consistent high level until your last breath is taken.
I cringe everytime I hear someone talk about 'building' self-esteem.
Think carefully about that. Think about the fact that what can be built can be torn down.
Esteem cannot & is not based on things we cannot control nor things that fluctuate.
Our value is in our existence.
Society has mistakenly taught us that we are what & how well we do.
It also teaches us to believe that we can build our self-esteem.
Remember what I said about 'what can be built can be torn down'?
Our specialness, our value, our self-esteem is who we are not what we do.
Self-Confidence is what we do.
Until around the age of 7 we, as society, recognize that difference.
Then the 2 concepts are blended together
& you begin a roller coaster ride that circumstances outside of your control puts you on.
It is not that your esteem rises and falls with circumstances that come into your life.
Your esteem is constant.
The problem is a failure to recognize what is already and always present.
You are not a ghost.
Do not let your value materialize & dematerialize based on circumstance.
It is important enough to repeat:
Self-Esteem is who you are, not what you do.
Self-Esteem is always present. Recognize it.
Your hair, appearance, job, incom, grades, relationship status & other criteria
do not determine your self-esteem.
Practice creates greater
self-confidence which is what we do & the more you do the greater your self-confidence.
Build your self-confidence by improving an athletic skill, appearance or learn a language.
YOU have CHOICE in how you RESPOND to circumstance.
That is self-confidence.
Need to build your esteem recognition (not your self-esteem)?
Use the following TOOL.
Take 3x5 index cards
Write "I am special because I exist"!
Post by your bed, sock drawer, bathroom mirror, in the kitchen & car.
Read no less than 3 times a day until your recognize the reality that has already existed.
Self-Confidence = what you do.
Self-Esteem = who you are!
I NEVER have a 'bad hair day'.
Not even when I had more hair than this.
