THIS WEEK: TRUST: DEFINITION & LANGUAGE part 3 of 3
to provide training for your staff,
Picking up where we left off last week.
TRUST = REALITY that is CLEAR, CONSISTENT, INTERNAL & NEUTRAL!
Starting at the end & moving forward - -
5. NEUTRAL - TRUST is neither positive nor negative.
It is a neutral the same way that sugar is a neutral.
For a healthy person sugar has a positive application.
For a diabetic sugar has a negative application.
When I am provided a positive behavior TRUST exists as a positive value.
Examples: when I am told the truth, commitments are kept, support is given.
When I am provided a negative behavior TRUST exists as a negative value.
Examples: Lies are told, promises are broken, critisism is frequently used.
4. INTERNAL - TRUST is never about the other person,
it is ALWAYS about ones own acceptance
of the behaviors that are presented.
3. CONSISTENT - Behaviors presented repeatedly create an element of TRUST;
Repeated behavior (at least 3 repetitions) creates a pattern.
When lies are told on 3 occassions a negative TRUST value exists.
When support is offered several times positive TRUST exists.
2. CLEAR - When actions, words and other clues match - clarity exists.
When one smiles & says they like me, their meaning is clear.
When someone frowns when they say they like me their is no clarity.
The frown (negative) and the words (positive) contradict each other.
There must be a clear message which creates an element of TRUST.
1. REALITY - TRUST is about accepting the REALITY presented
whether we like that reality or not.
THE APPLICATION of TRUST
ie: When facing a situation with a person who has
(2) clearIy & (3)consistently lied to you, (4)accept that (1)reality as a (5)negative value Remember our Dilemma: we want to trust. So we
want to ask the question & HOPE that this time we will be given the truth.
And when history repeats itself we are angry & disappointed that they again lied.
Instead use the Definition of TRUST & accept the Reality that they will lie to you again.
LANGUAGE OF TRUST
Always say what you do TRUST, never what you don't;
even when TRUST is a negative value.
Traditionally we say that we TRUST only when it is a positive value.
"I TRUST that he will tell me the truth".
There is more POWER in stating the REALITY: "I TRUST that he will lie to me".
This language provides you options, with a choice.
Accepting that a lie is the consistent outcome you can choose not to ask the question.
When behaviors change, so do the values and realities of TRUST.
When the child who has clearly & consistently lied now clearly & consistently tells the truth we must recognize & accept this new Reality. After all, that what life is all about - GROWTH & CHANGE. Remember that CHANGE starts with YOU. (Review Elevator 3)
It bears repeating
TRUST: REALITY that is CLEAR, CONSISTENT, INTERNAL & NEUTRAL!
Based on my clear & consistent behaviors you can TRUST in a positive value that I'll be back next week with an Elevator to inform, entertain & make a difference in your life.
Please forward/share this to others you know so they’ll grow right along with you.
