THIS WEEK: TRUST: A PARADIGM SHIFT part 1 of 3
TRUST: TESTING THE TRADITIONAL
TRUST is such a basic tool of healthy living & yet so very misunderstood.
Those who are not familiar with my website & Elevators & perhaps
even those who are need to review Elevator # 2 - "Why 'Define' Your World".
Everything, especially trust, must start with a definition.
Before we go further write your own definition of trust.
Don't read further until you do.
5 individuals were asked to provide their definitions of trust which follow.
1. When someone tells me the trust.
2. When a person supports me.
3. people who keep their promises.
4. When a person doen't hurt me.
5. When a friend doesn't betray my confidence when I tell them something.
Does yours match any of the 5? How many words the same? How many different?
TRUST: THE 5 PROBLEMS WITH THE TRADITIONAL
I asked you to define trust. Had you ever before though of what you looked for & how you experienced trust? Most people haven't and that's Problem 1.
People add more & more words to fit all situations. This creates inconsistancy & difficulty transfering definitions from one to another creating Problem 2.
When one person's words don't match those of another it is difficult, if not impossible, to experience trust together. Lack of match describes Problem 3.
The 5 definitions above & I'm betting yours too all talk about another person's actions & behaviors. Trust in the other person takes power out of your hands.
When you realize that when you TRUST, it is yourself you trust to see the reality around you. Trust is not in another person. This eliminates Problem 4.
Before detailing #5 take this quick test. Provide the word that comes to mind.
in/______ yes/_____ up/________ salt/________ left/_________ positive/___________
Did you know the answers?
Sure you did because there is little in life that has no opposite.
Except when society looks at trust.
Society says trust is only a positive without a negative other half. So...
Elemination of half the possibilites is Problem 5.
Sugar is neither positive nor negative. It is neutral.
To a diabetic sugar has a negative application; for a healthy person a positive.
The same is true of TRUST.
TRUST is nuetral & has both porsitive & negative applications.
When you support me I see that reality & TRUST you in a positive way.
When you lie to me I see that reality & TRUST you in a negative way.
I always TRUST myself to see the reality of the behaviors you present.
Intrigued yet? Come back next week when I provide my definitive definition.
